Saipin Chutima - Owner and Chef
Saipin Chutima makes the name "Lotus of Siam" stand out from other Thai restaurants by her distinctive authentic northern style Thai food. Her bangkok style food is also second to none. Gourmet magazine called it the "single best Thai restaurant in Northern America".
Almost every Thai woman has to learn how to cook. Saipin is not an exception. She was forced to learn how to cook since she was 5 years old under her grandmother, Tha. Her talent is really shined eventhough she wanted to work in a beauty shop. Later on, Anocha, her husband's grandmother accepted her apprenticeship. She began to enjoy cooking for people, seeing that her creations bring smiles upon a stranger's face. At age 17, she met her husband, Suchay, while he was hanging around his grandmother's kitchen. It was a love at first sight. Though luck was not on their side. Suchay had to come to United States. It took him seven years before he saw her again.
In 1994, they purchased Renu Nakorn, a Thai food restaurant in Norwalk, California. It was an instant hit to those who loves Thai food. All her hard work while her apprenticeship was paid off. Major magazines gave her positive write-ups. Her specialty in nothern Thai food is really unique and tasteful. Kanom-Jean-Nam-Ngaew(vermicelli in a curry sauce), Kang Hung Lay(pork stew), Green chili dip(you need a Fire Extinquisher after you finished the plate), and Nam Kao Tod(minced sour sausage, an appetizer to die for). Later on, she sold it because she saw more opportunity in Las Vegas.
In year 2000, they bought Lotus of Siam, a restaurant hiding in a strip mall eastern of strip. Her life has really kick off at Lotus of Siam. Gourmet magazine called it the "single best Thai restaurant in North America". The restaurant was also review in an airline magazine. Though people enjoy her family traditional recipes day-ins, day-outs, she is always cooking up new recipes so people could enjoy her meals even more.
